Community & Social Ministries

Our Vision

Building communities by strengthening families through acts of compassion . . .

With a grand vision and a heart of compassion, Dr. David Ireland, Senior Pastor of Christ Church, established Impact Community Development Corporation (ICDC) in 2002, to address the needs in economically blighted neighborhoods in Montclair Township and in communities throughout New Jersey. ICDC will work to create healthy and safe neighborhoods, promote civic engagement, build strong families, champion ethnic inclusion, promote racial reconciliation, and develop economically viable communities.

Our Mission

Creating healthy communities through compassionate service . . .

The mission of ICDC, a nonprofit community development organization in Montclair, New Jersey, is to increase the availability of affordable housing to low-income families and the elderly, enhance educational and leadership opportunities for youth, and provide entrepreneurial training that fosters economic revitalization in distressed communities. ICDC is committed to empowering people, engaging in strategic business partnerships, building healthy and sustainable communities, and renewing neighborhood pride through education, resource development, and advocacy.

Our Programs

The Learning Center
The Learning Center is an academic ministry of Christ Church providing educational services to anyone in need of basic skills remediation, supplemental instruction, and/or test preparation for the Grade Eight Proficiency Assessment (GEPA), High School Proficiency Assessment (HSPA), Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT), and General Educational Equivalency Diploma (GED). The Learning Center program provides state-of-the-art, computer-based academic instruction with hands-on personal guidance from certified teachers and educators. Advanced studies in science, reading, writing and math are key elements of our program. These services are available to school-aged students and adults.

Prison Ministry
Our Prison Ministry serves 6 correctional facilities in the New York/New Jersey metropolitan area. We provide a variety of services to inmates, including Bible donations, books, and discipleship literature. Our volunteers conduct worship services, Bible Studies, and training classes designed to prepare inmates for re-entry into society upon release from prison.

Evangelism Ministry
Our Evangelism Training Seminars are designed to equip believers in the fundamental techniques of sharing one’s faith in a style that is both natural and effective. Seminars are held twice a year and are designed to erase typical misconceptions about evangelism, help you to articulate biblical truths in plain language, and provide a relational approach to leading unbelievers to Christ.

Marriage Builders Groups
The Marriage Builders groups are designed to strengthen marriages and provide opportunities for couples to build supportive relationships. These small groups average 4 to 8 couples and meet in the homes of married couples who are members of Christ Church. Whether you are a newlywed or a seasoned couple, you and your spouse will discover and learn principles from God’s Word that will help you enjoy a healthy satisfying marriage. The Marriage Builders groups typically meet 3 times per year.

Nursing Home Ministry
Our Nursing Home Ministry serves several nursing homes in Montclair, New Jersey and the surrounding areas through regularly scheduled visits. Interactive worship services, Bible readings, skits, and room to room visits are included. Our purpose is to serve the physical, mental, and spiritual well being of confined senior citizens through sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Bridges to Faith Special Needs Ministry
Bridges to Faith Special Needs Ministry exists to provide Christ-centered leadership and discipleship training to individuals with special learning needs. This program incorporates biblical study, worship, and offers those with emotional cognitive and developmental challenges the opportunity to build dynamic relationships. Specially trained staff serve in this important ministry.
